Default Car stereo instead of CD changer

Hello,
I have a CD changer in the trunk, but i was wondering if its possible to replace it with aftermarket audio that has AUX input and all the other stuff. Did anyone tried it? what wires/wire adapter do I need for it. I dont think there are CD players with the same sockets as the CD changer.

I want to completely replace CD changer, i know there is smth called AUX-JAG, but like i said, i want to completely replace it/remove it

RADas, what you are wanting to do is most easily done by replacing the head unit. The difficulty in this depends on whether you have the NAV system or not. Without the NAV system, it is a piece of cake as the connections are very basic and pretty much, you replace the radio and you are done.

Where things get difficult is when you have NAV. This would mean that you have all the controls for the A/C and heat running through the radio too. To revert back is a lot of work and more cost than it is worth. So, if you have the NAV, replacing the radio is not really an option.

If you look on say E-bay, they do make a kit that will plug into the back of the radio that will give you the AUX input like what you are after. It is like $300 for the kit, but it is plug and play.

Unfortunately mine is with NAV, thats why I was wondering whether it is possible to rip out the cd changer (in the boot/trunk) and replace it with the normal audio. The only problem is the wires, as they are different from what i can tell

RADas-, your best bet would be to look at something like a car PC. Most of the "radio" would mount under a seat and then you would have a small screen that you can find a spot to mount it (say in front of the gear shift). That will then allow you to access all your radio stuff, but then also give you a lot more functionality. Then you would simply use the factory "radio" for nothing more than A/C control and NAV.

That sounds pretty expensive just to get an AUX output. I have called an audio technician, and he said that he can do smth with cd changer wires so that i can get AUX output out of it all, sadly didnt say how..

The cd changer uses fibre optic cables so I think any substitution is going to be quite involved.

Any idea whether this bypass cable would work?

I took the cd changer out and noticed that factory fitted phone in my car is not being recognized now, wondering if this would help to solve the problem
