There was no need to remove neither valve cover nor A/C lines.

Got the fault codes P0420 and P0430, CO emission did not respect limits.

Real-Tech, when you removed the cat without dropping the subframe, how did you go about it? was there enough room to sneak it out the top by just removing the plenum and exhaust manifold? were you able to get it past the AC piping? how did you get to the manifold bolts?

Looking to take this approach if I tackle this because I don't have a lift to use.

Thanks

It's a quite tricky job to remove the manifold bolts.
First you need suitable tools.
Do use a lubricant, these bolts do crack easily.
You have to be very, VERY patient and careful.

I just did my first X Type 2.5 rear catalyst replacement. The car was from one of our "northern" states, with lots of rust and crust on all of the fasteners. Not a fun job! And I have no idea how you guys did this without removing that subframe. It seems that EVERYTHING is nearly inaccessible without removing it! Glad that most of my work is from the desert climates!

I had my catalytic converter replaced free earlier this year through the dealership. I had slight hesitation at startup and random misfire on cylinders 1, 3, and 6. That said, it drove normally after it was warm. The replacement was not an easy job since it took my dealership about two days to get it done.

was it just intake off and manifold off the you could get at the cat. that sounds alot easyer than messing with the sub fame. Id rather take my time with the manifold bolts than the sub frame.

It sounds like a piece of cake, but it isn't, sorry to say it.
If you manage to unmount intake and manifold pulling out the cat is still tricky as there is very VERY little room.

Yes, that rear cat takes forever to take out, as the angle is bad and it's so hard to get at those bolts. There are 6 bolts total IIRC and it took us like 2 hours just to get them out. Like everyone is saying, use PB blaster on the bolts at least a few hours before you try to take them out. We also had to take it out the cat. from the top after taking out the intake manifold.

Remove the subframe. IMO you could (and I did) spend 20 or 30 hours trying not to remove the subframe only to find out in the end you need to remove the subframe. The front subframe sucks to remove but it is doable. The factory workshop manual helps but talks about half a dozen "special tools". Almost all "special tools" can be replaced by a pair of jacks to lower and raise things smoothly. I used RV scissor jacks from Harbor Freight, 2 at about $15 each.

The worst part for me removing the front subframe was the one bolt at the driver side rear of the subframe, roughly under the brake pedal. Required removing the interior carpeting and cutting into the floor with a dremel grinding wheel to get a socket on the nut that should have been welded on at the factory but apparently was not.
