Shaguar4, first off, welcome to the forums. You will find lots of good information here. Just stop by the New Member Section and give us a little introduction. We are quirky in that we like to get to know one another.
As for your question, yes, the center console will bolt right in. No major structural changes were made during the run of the X-Type (01-09). So, you can swap around parts and all should be good. Now, there are slight changes when you are flipping between the standard radio and the Navi radio (ie, the touch screen). That is not a simple "plug and play" mod. You have to add a lot of stuff to the car to make the Navi work. You would be better off getting an aftermarket head unit for say $700 than to try and retro fit the factory unit in. If you want me to go into more detail about this, let me know. If you do some looking, this question has been asked a few times before.

Well I just finished my introduction on the New Member Section! Now as far as the center console goes I have thought about an aftermarket set up as that is what I had in my last car, however the shape of the center console seems very specific. My concern would be how it would fit? Would there be an unusual gap between the aftermarket setup and the original pieces or is there going to be a big spacer block that’s going to just sitting there to hold it in (both of which I would not be a big fan of)?

The big spacer block is the only solution I've seen here. There are plenty of old threads on installing an aftermarket headunit in the X-Type, do read them. There's important stuff such as how some deeper headunits don't fit in the top 2 slots because of some climate control thingy behind the dashboard.

Shaguar, unfortunately, if you are looking aftermarket, you are going to be force to use the spacer block. Other members have used them and what they did was to color match the plastic with the color of the radio or with the rest of the plastic for the center console. So, are you willing to have the looks of the plastic trim or pay the bigger dollar to have all the factory components installed.
