Does it only do it on one door or all doors. If only one door won't open the lock it could be a stiff rod. I would recommend getting a good spray silicone lubricant and spray the lock mechanisms and exercise the door handles. It might be a quick fix then again it might not.

Can the doors be unlocked using the key from the outside of the car? The question is for both of you. Also, have you tried lubricating the mechanism?

No problems unlocking all the doors from the outside - both times it has happened to me was when a passenger got out and then tried to get back in a couple of minutes later with the engine off and me sitting in the drivers seat - could not open my door when she tried to get in either so had to use the fob

Lubricating is an idea but both doors locking at the same time is a bit of a long shot and I put it down to a fault in the auto lock thing where all the doors lock when you are moving or the central locking chip

Hi, I had central locking problem with my 06 X type until someone suggested it may be a problem with a pin in the ignition switch sticking. After many weeks of trying difference things I sprayed WD 40 into the ignition, worked the key a little and was amazed it done the trick. I hope this might help someone with the same problem.
