Default Central Locking System

I just purchased a 04 X-Type.

I am having issues with the central locking system. The car will unlock fine with the FOB, but I have to press the unlock button several times for the doors to unlock. When I press the unlock on the FOB, most of the the time, only the lights will blink showing the system is getting the signal from the FOB but no unlocking. Other times, the horn will sound and then the doors will unlock. Other times, there is nothing when pressing the unlock button on the FOB. I also tried the key in the driver’s door lock itself with the same symptoms. Inside the car, the chrome door lock latch will not work at times either. I replaced the driver’s door lock actuator today (used) but have the same problem. I was sure the original actuator was bad. I’m at a lost. HELP!

Spray the lock mechanism's with a good dose of WD-40 nnd open and close the doors a ew times. There are micro-swiches in the mechanism that will stick. That might be whats happening.

FIXED!

The problem was the GEM/GECM (known by many as a body processor module). It is mounted under the glove box on LHD cars. There is a plastic bracket with a clip at the bottom which is attached to the engine ECU. Press the clip and the GEM slides downward. There is 1x43 - 4x43 stamped on the module's label. My car is a 04;therefore, I got the 4x43 module. I am thinking the 1x43 is for an earlier car. I am attaching a pic of the GEM so you will know what it looks like. I removed the glovebox, but I feel sure that is not needed.

Hope this helps someone. I could find very little info on it in searching!

Did you replace the gem module, or repair it or the wiring ?
If you replaced the module did you need to have it programmed to match the ecu and cluster ?

Paul.

Paul,

I replaced the GEM with a used one from another car. I did NOT have to reprogram it. The only thing I had to do was to reprogram my remote/FOB. I forgot to mention I disconnected the battery completely to avoid any power spikes when I plugged in the multiple inputs.

Hope this helps!
