Default changing front strut on 2WD X-type

Has any member experience of simply loosening the pinch bolt round the strut and so separating the upper part with spring from the lower part with shaft , disc etc? It would be a straightforward way to get at the strut but would it work? My model is the front wheel drive based (I understand) on the Ford Mondeo.
All replies appreciated thank you.

All X types are based on a very highly modified Mondeo/Contour platform , that, along with some braking & suspension modified bits . The X type has about 16% Mondeo in it, No idea about the struts!!

Follow the procedure outlined in the JTIS Workshop Manual for servicing the front suspension and struts. Use the search function of this forum for threads on removing and replacing the X400 struts.

If you plan on replacing the struts yourself, be sure to have the necessary tools to compress the spring to avoid the possibility of physical injury or damage to the strut.

Is the JTIS manual on line or is it something I need to purchase? I tried finding strut replacement info in the search section and I guess I keep putting in erroneous info cause it got me to Erin (I believe) who is basically asking the same thing. I have an '03 X-type 2.5L AWD. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum crf120250,

To answer your specific question, you can download the relevant JTIS section for this procedure from my MediaFire account by following this link:
