Well disconnected battery and still no joy so took the head unit out to check the wiring and there was a loose connection, now dashboard lights all work fine 😊 Now next question to anyone that can help is I have the pioneer da120 head unit and have bought the nd-bc8 reversing camera, now according to the instructions the camera has to be connected to reverse wire, so it knows when engaged, is there a wire behind the head unit I can join into? There are 2 wires off the camera lead a red fused wire and a black wire, however nothing looks like it should go to reverse?

It looks like from the diagram you show the light green should get it's power from the reverse light and the violet/white would be a normal ground. Check out figure 5 : http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/St...nual081815.pdf

It's confusing because the camera pdf shows a totally different set up. The last camera I set up had 4 wires. One was the power feed off the reverse lights to trigger the camera, one was a normal ground and the other 2 were the feeds off the camers into the headunit.

Yes I do but that's for the image from camera, my query is how do I wire it so that when I select reverse the camera automatically comes on? As there are only 2 other wires, a black one and a red fused one

Black would be a ground and the red fused one you have to tap into the power side of the back up light. You would have to run a wire from the truck to the connection.

Connect to the reverse lights power, or if you have reverse sensors, there is a Black/green wire on the module that powers up on reverse, that is what I used for my camera!! Connect the RED power wire for the camera to the same wire!!

Pioneer da-120 Head unit now in and working well with the great advice above, have just fitted the reversing camera pioneer nd-bc8, I have wired the positive wire into the green black wire in the wheel well as I believe this is the wire to trigger the camera when reverse is selected however this doesn't happen, if I select video feed then I will get the image regardless of what gear I select but when reverse is selected nothing comes up on screen, have I tapped into the right wire for reverse? My X type is a 2002 did they change the wiring after this year, the camera is definitely getting power as I can see an image but only if I select camera manually. It is plugged into the brown in on back of head unit which manual says is for the reversing camera.

I saw that but that is part of the connector that fits into the head unit, I have a harness adapter fitted to that from jag wiring, do I have to splice into the violet/white wire? And if so where does the other end of wire connect too if I leave the positive wire in boot connected to green/black wire

The head unit needs to get a "trigger" to change over to the reverse camera( if it has that function) The green/black wire on the sensor module is the power wire from the gearbox switch, check with a meter that it goes live in reverse!! Maybe contact the head unit manufacturer for advice!!

Right Robby, looked at your wiring in more detail. You have wired the Red +ive wire from the camera into the green/black on the module, and the camera works, so everything is fine power wise!! You need to connect the Violet/white wire from the head unit into the same Green/black wire to tell the head unit you are in reverse. Just separate this wire from your wiring adaptor as it is Going nowhere in the Jag wiring!!
Hope this helps!!

Euan

Thanks EuanT is there a wire I can splice into behind the console as opposed to running another length of wire through the car?

Sorry Ignore that, for front sensors only, unless you have them?? I am fitting a front camera and that is where I am taking the trigger, but I have front sensors!!

P.S. my camera video cable had a trigger wire built in, with a short tail wire coming out of the yellow plugs!!!
