check engine light
i made a thread before and i got some stuff fixed but i have the check engine light one with error code P0171 which said "system too lean" and i opened my hood and i hear hissing sound coming from the engine area(look at pic below) and i just cant seem to find which hose is which bc i read some other threads and the posters said to check pvc hose a brake booster hose and some other hose but i dont know where these hoses are located bc when i bought the car it didnt come with owners manual. The last pic is the one of my car lol and yes i know my side mirror is missing someone robbed it -_-"
EDIT: the second pic is supposed to be where hissing comes from or maybe the first one its hard to hear

The 2nd picture your showing is the PVC hose, you have the older hose on there, the newer hose is ribbed. If you remove the plastic top you will see the rest of the tube and where it goes into the cover, it looks like the hose is open there on the end. Since it's a vaccum leak, don't use soapy water to see where the leak is, I would use maybe some carb cleaner or some WD 40, and when you hit the leak the engine will start to miss some or you'll notice a difference in the idle speed. The small black hose in the first picture is the hose going to the brake booster, they leak there too, just a small crack can cause a vaccum leak. Maybe some one else here can help more, but that's where I would start.

There is indeed an upgrade for the pipe in your picture , it is ribbed and much stronger with a clip at either end , part number C2S40863 , I have just done mine , it was split underneath causing stuttering and the engine light to come on , I too had the hissing sound , now all is well ............till the next thing .
Good luck ,
Mike.

pull on it! you young kids are experts at that.
you do need to remove that plastic engine cover. there are 3 screws that only take a 1/4 turn plus you need to remove the oil filler cap. then the cover lifts off.
when the cover is off, the hose is right there. the end at toward the back of the car you can pull like a maniac, but at the end closer to the front bumper, be careful it is attached to the PCV valve which is plastic. Dont bust it. There is also an updated part for that PCV valve, and it comes out with a 1/4 turn too.

If the hose is actually split, it will be very obvious.
you can use a piece of 3/4 inch heater hose and it will cure your problem for a couple of months. you can pick up a foot long piece of hose for less than a dollar... any auto parts store.
This PCV hose has some oil vapour in it and it will deteriorate the hose in a few months, and the problem will come back, but as a temporary measure, you can get the car running for almost nothing.
if the source of the air leak is the famous O-Rings, they are also not expensive, and easy to change yourself...
