Default check engine light wont go off

got a 2002 x Type 2.5l i have done a full tune up but i keep getting code P1796 manufacturer controlled transmission anybody now what it may be? or how to get ride of it? just trying to get it to pass emissions test any help would be great!!!!!!!!!!

Based on the code, you are suffering from either a failed TCM module or the CAN bus wiring to the TCM is damaged and therefore not communicating like it should. Odds are, you would be best served by taking it to a shop and having them connect up a high dollar computer to see if they can talk with the TCM. If they can, then odds are you have a TCM failure. If they can not, then most likely a CAN Bus system failure.

would the TCM being bad keep the car form going in reverse? if so shouldn't it be able to pass emissions?

Jaguar, a lot of places will fail a car on "emmissions" just because the check engine light is on. It may be nothing to do with the engine, but if the light is on, it fails.

jaguar0206, stick your head down in the driver's footwell area and then look up. It is behind the dash.
