check engine reset?

It could be a different problem. You need to get the codes read again and see what it is.
In general, you need a code scanner to reset the engine light. But if the problem is not fixed/still there it will come back on. Sometimes the light will go out buy itself IF the fault that caused it to come on does not happen agian after a number of driving cycles. The code will still remain in the engine computer but the light will go out. Also, dsiconnecting the battery does nothing to clear codes so don't bother trying it.
Many Auto parts stores will read your codes for free so start there.
