Default Code Mania!

Well the X-Type has run beautifully all summer and then BAM!!!! The engine light comes on. I plug the reader in and there are 9 codes!!!!! Not one or two, 9!!!! They are P0174, 300, 301, 303, 305, 1316, 443, 455 and 1111. Of course I went and looked up each one here on this great Forum and I guess have a big problem. It appears there is a massive vacuum leak, oil in the plugs, misfires, gas vapors being returned to the engine, coils and plug problems to name a few! I will check under the hood this weekend but it seems that I will be needing a lot of parts? I better start that loan application now.

dangillo, I know this is going to sound funny, but get your battery load tested. I bet you will find that your battery is getting weak and that is causing all of your issues. IN short, the battery is causing your ECU to get too little voltage which in turn is causing it to run erroneously, leading to the faults.

If you have over 100k then the usual maintenance might help. This means..upper and lower mainifold gaskets, plugs, IMT seals, oil cap seal, and the o rings for the vacuum lines. You might also check the pcv hose for cracks. Also make sure the PCV valve is the beige or grey one, the originals are bad. This sounds like a lot but its about $120 if you do it yourself. its all in the same place and not hard to do. If you think about it, its a job you will only need to do once.

If the engine runs OK then go with Thermo's suggestion.
If the battery is OEM the manufacture date is stamped MM/YY on the negative post.
