Default Comparing 2002 2.5 and 2004 3.0

Hey all, still quite new to the jag community. I’ve had a number of issues with my recent purchase but I love it too much to get rid of.

So my question…I currently have a 2004 Sport Wagon, 3.0L auto. And I have recently found a 2002 sport sedan, 2.5L manual. I’m looking at purchasing this as a parts car, now obviously I know the motor and transmission are no good for parts, but do the majority of other components align for these vehicles? A/C system, cooling & heating system, various sensors, suspension, catalytic converters, etc. I know going from a sedan to a wagon I won’t be able to recycle any rear end exterior bits but I believe front end parts and the interior should be transferable.

Any insight would be much appreciated!

Cheers!

IrishNS, most of the motor parts are going to be interchangeable. They use the same block and parts, they just shortened the stroke on the 2.5L motor to give it the lower displacement. Now, the one difference you may find is that in March 2004, Jaguar made some changes to the X-Type and things like the fuse boxes are not interchangeable. So, look in the driver's door jam and see when the car was built (it has the month and year the care was manufacturered). If you are in March 2004 or earlier, then both cars are going to be almost 100% interchangeable (other than some motor internals, the TCM, and some rear end stuff. I think the Estate wagon has slightly different springs than the sedan, but the springs are physically the same, just a higher spring rate in the EState.

Thermo, thanks so much! I just made the cut at 02/04…For $1500 I think I can salvage a lot more than that out of this parts car. I meant to on another thread but I must extend a HUGE thanks to your posts on replacing the oil pan gasket….managed to knock that out last week and owe you a big thank you for your input on here. Cheers!

I have both a 2002 2.5 manual and a 2005 Sportwagon 3.0. The passenger compartment interiors are identical. Apart from the points that Thermo mentions (the alterations made for the 2005 onward cars) most of the components are the same. The 2005 and later Sportwagons had the same "Comfort" suspension (that is what is marked on the struts) as the sedans (the 2004 Sportwagon, not available in the US, had the stiffer suspension as in the Sport sedan).
