Configuring GCEM module

Configuring GCEM module
Hi all,
Having major trouble with my 2002 x type, it appears to have a knackered GCEM.
I've got a replacement, ready to fit to the vehicle and working Mongoose / SDD to configure it.
My question is what steps do I need to do to configure it to the car?
I've been searching the Internet for days for the answer so hopefully someone can come to my rescue!
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Assuming the new GEM is from an X Type built for the same market area as yours, you'll probably find it's plug-and-play.
Other features controlled by the GEM that you might want to personalise are the Smart Locking, On/Off.
This feature helps prevent locking the key in the vehicle. If one of the front doors is open and an attempt is made to lock the doors using a door interior locking lever, all doors will become unlocked.
If the bonnet, luggage compartment or a door is open, the vehicle can only be locked from the outside by using a key in the driver’s door lock.
It will not be possible to lock the vehicle with a key transmitter if the luggage compartment, bonnet or a door is open.)
Automatic Locks On/Off (This feature automatically centrally locks and arms the vehicle if the vehicle has been unlocked with the key transmitter:
• and no door has been opened for 45 seconds or,
• if the ignition remains off for 45) seconds.
With the ignition key at position ‘II’ and all doors closed, all doors will lock when the vehicle is moving above 8 km/h (5 mph). If the vehicle is stopped and a door is opened, provided the engine remains running, the car will relock when the door is closed and the vehicle is moving. If the car is unlocked this feature will only lock the doors again if the ignition is turned off and then back on.

I believe I have fixed my problem!!!!!
I was trying to code transponders, and it kept failing to communicate with the gecm, therefore leaving me with no keys working!
I've swapped the gecm from donor car, had exactly the same part number, and configured it as a new module (used the automatic option) and now managed to program a remote transmitter, further than I got before! :-) so believe the communication issue is solved and the gecm is working happily in its new home!
It successfully programs one of the keys I have, but I have another that was cut and working before, but this ones transponder won't seem to program :-( so can't program two keys and still can't drive car.
I'm guessing that if I get a key cut from somewhere like Timpsons, it should code to the car okay, and I will have two keys and be able to use the car?!
I will document everything when it's running, had so much brain ache and not much information online!

Timpsons can cut a key but they copy the transponder in the key you supply to the new cut key.
ypu should be able to code the key if it has a working transponder. the key security is in the instrument cluster and engine ecu the fob buttons are in the gem so you should still be able to start the car but not open doors ect

Went into Timpsons and was told they couldn't do it with a blank transponder, which is what I wanted.
Had a mobile guy come and cut a key for me, complete with the right transponder key for a 2002 x type (4D60)
Key coded to the car like a dream, along with my other key and it now runs and drives with no issues!
1) I can die a happy man
2) I will be doing a write up shortly of everything that happened, because there wasn't much on the internet about my problem and some truth / false information so I shall confirm everything I know

Hi Friend,
I have the same car with the same issue I can't get the key to be programmed. I had a car with a faulty cluster or IP. I went to my friend he gave his cluster from a working Jaguar.
Now the car my friend won't turn over. No start no crank. The Anti-theft light flashing.
I don't know what is the process to get my friend's car working again. I don't think it has a faulty GECM.
In SDD Software when I want to Programme keys after they have been erased I got 3-34 error.
Please help me I am stuck.

The OP, Stacker, was last on the forums in August 2015 only six days after posting. I recommend you start a new thread detailing your issue.
