Default XK150 door lock issues?

We are having a problem locking and unlocking the doors on our 1960 XK150 SE FHC. Both doors can be locked from the outside with a key, but only unlocks if you open it from the inside! This of course means we can't lock the vehicle and park it or we won't be able to get back in again

Can anyone confirm whether this is a known issue and/or advise what might be done about it?

Thanks!

Hello,

On my 1961 Xk150FHC, it seems to work like it should.
When you lock the doors from the outside, the handle knob does not opens the doors anymore, Like it should, unlocking just opens the doors again.
But from the inside, there is nothing locked, you can allways open the doors from the inside.
Since I assembled the doors myself, and looking at how it is constructed, this seems to be correct.

Regards,
Peter Jan

So I showed this post to my brother and he pointed out that I didn't describe the problem correctly. The issue is that the passenger door cannot be UNlocked. The outside door handle accepts a key, but remains locked no matter which way you turn the key. So the only way to open the door is from the inside door handle.

I am wondering if the door lock actuator needs to be replaced?

Deebeazy,
There is no door actuator!
This is about a car from 1961!, all is mechanical.

I have the same problem on my XK150 OTS. How does one get access to the lock mechanism? I took off the door panel but that doesn't profide access. How would one remove the door handle for example. Deebeazy, did you ever solve the problem? Thanks,Econlaw

I wish I had this problem. What a beautiful car.
As with many of the components on the Riley, these parts are serviceable... no need to replace.

But I must ask, is the door lock necessary? Who would have the gall to touch the door of such a classic, without invitation?
