Hi Folks,

I have an 2002 X-Type 2.5 V6. The Cooling Fan comes on before the car has really warmed up. I've made sure the Air con is off but it still does it.

The temperature gauge is working fine.

Is there a seperate temperature sender for the Fan?

There are other mentions of this on other forums but nobody has a definitive answer.

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

Spoke to the Jag parts department. They say there are 2 temp senders but they are not sure which one controls the fan so I have ordered both.

 

Mine does the same thing. I think that is how our cars were made. I have an 03 2.5L auto trans with 56K on the clock.

 

Thanks baffourg but I can't believe they would design the fan to come on unnecessarily. It's noisy for a start.

I've purchased two temperature sensors from the main dealer but we can only find one of them and that one is not the faulty one.

Can anyone tells me where the second sensors lives?

There is only one temperature sensor.




But I doubt if there is one in cooling fan module. 1. in picture below

 

West, there are 2 temp sensors for the engine, but one is a coolant sensor, the other is an air intake temp sensor. Only the coolant sensor controls the fans. I would venture to guess that you have a wiring issue that is affecting the temp that the ECU is seeing. Most people do not realize that there is a "dead band" in the engine temp indication so, for 15 degrees or so (not sure of the exact band), the needle will remain in the same spot. This was done because too many people were bringing in their cars because the temp needle moved as they were driving and they were worried about the vehicle overheating. The same can be said about factory "oil pressure" gauges. They are really a switch that indicates good pressure or not. Too many people were dropping off their cars because the pressure gauge went higher as they rev'ed their engines.

Now people are happier because they have less indication for their vehicles. Oh well. Just one more reason why I want to build a totally custom car so I can get the indications I want.

I think the dealer gave me two sensors because they didn't know which one my car had fitted.

They sent me Part no LNA1600AA and XR832403.

An internet search on these part numbers shows they are both valid Engine Coolant Sensors. They must have used one for a while and changed to the other a some point.

Having changed the coolant sensor, the fan is no longer permanently on but it still comes on as soon as the temp gauge reaches the "Dead band".

I think a Jaguar specialist is required.

I'll keep you posted if I get this solved.
