boobea, the disk is not a complete waste. If you get into the data folder, you can still access the electrical schematics (they are in PDF format). Unfortunately, if you are after the "how to's", then you are out of luck. I have heard though that if you upgrade Windows 7 to the Ultimate or the other high end one (not the Home Professional or Home), there is additional software in the higher end ones that will allow JTIS to work as it is a lower bit program (I believe 16 bit). I know the Windows 7 Home Professional or just Home versions say that they will handle the lower bit programs, but they don't. I have a lot of programs that I can't use any more and have simply resigned myself to buying new programs since most of what I had I bought back in 2000 or so (probably need something newer anyways).
I hope this helps you in some way.

boobea, all the manufacturers went to online versions of the JTIS. This allows headquarters to update files at a moments notice and makes it more difficult for people like us to fix our own cars (dealerships were at one point selling the discs to make some money). Now, only the dealerships and select mechanics can get access to that information. Your option is to look up a service like Automotive Repair, Auto Recalls, Automotive Software & TSB's - ALLDATA and subscribe to that. It will run you about $25 a year, but that gives you full access to everything for your car. The downside to this service is it is only good for 1 vehicle (ie, 2004 X-Type, not a 2005, not a 2003). So, for someone like me that is looking up lots of vehicles, it can get rather expensive really fast. An unlimited account is like $600 a year as I recall.
