Default cooling fans not working?

Hi all...I`ve an 04 x sport..had it out this past wkend (don`t drive it much in winter) and got a HIGH ENGINE TEMP message, dial pegged hot,and CEL.Just driving around town 30-60mph.Shut it down for a few min and restarted.Dial went back to normal and seemed to run fine although CEL still on. Been running it a little in my garage ..seems to be alright...but fans aren`t running at all. Did the AC check and nothing. Is there just the one fuse #16,5amp ?..Is there a relay? If it is the fan control module can i just get the module or do you have to get the whole assembly? Any part #? Sorry for being so long winded

matt, you should have 2 fuses that power the control module. You need to check fuse F40 (80A) to make sure it is good. Then you need to also check fuse F16 (5 amp). But, based on past experience, you will probably find that those are good. So, that leaves you back with a bad control module.

As for the control module, yes, you can only get the module and replace that. But of note, in early 2004, jaguar realized that this module was a weak link and they upgraded the module. The two modules have different plugs. It should be that you have the new module already in the car, so, the repair will be nothing more than unplugging the one module and plugging up the new one. But, if you by chance have the old style, you would also need to get the adapter cable to make it all work.

mattr, check out carparts.com. They should have the part. Not sure what it may cost there. They are a big auto recycler and should be able to tell you where to get the part from. If you are looking at buying new, then let me know. I have 2 dealerships I work with and both seem to treat you right and have decent prices on parts straight from the dealership.
