Default Crossed drilled rotors whistling

I have crossed drilled rotors and I started getting this loud whistling at very slow speeds...I know I still have good ceramic padding so I don't know what it might be...someone mentioned the bearings. I also noticed this started happening when I started driving in the snow....Any ideas folks?

Does the whistling get higher as you increase speed? Seems like it would stop at a certain point if it were the rotors. The bearing is more like a whine than a whistle.

What do you mean by "very slow speeds"? Can you tell where the noise is coming from? Have you read any of the recent posts about the whistling from the propshaft bearings?

You could try putting anti-squeal compound on the backs of the brake pads. If it is doing it at very low speeds then have someone walk next to the car to determine where the sound is coming from. Does the sound go away when you apply light pressure to the brake pedal?

Im with Alfadude....if this noise sounds like your being pulled over or a helicopter shutting down its your propshaft bearing. The bearing that connects the front shaft out of the transfer case to the one that goes back to the differential. Your noise is between 15-35 mph isnt it? More noticable when you let off the gas.

I am having a similar issue and have the cross slotted and drilled rotors. My sound does go away when you apply light pressure to the brake pedal. I will have to try out the antisqueal to see if i can get the sound to go away. If I have passengers in the car, the sound comes more often and a little louder. Not sure if this is a similar issue to the one the OP has mentioned, but if it is, any help is appreciated. If it is not, i dont want to thread jack, so if someone could PM me, or I can just start another thread.

Thanks.

04Xtype, you are fine. feel free to comment on this thread too cause it sounds like you and I are having the same issue. Mine is around that 15 - 35 mph and it became very very loud when i drove in the snow the other night. Is it a major work or a quick fix if it were the bearing?

Pretty easy actually. Just find it hard to believe your rotors would be that crazy. Just for poops and giggles, after the car is stopped for a while and the rotors have time to cool, see if you can feel the surface of the rotor. See if its chewed up or anything abnormal. If not, then i would put my money on the propshaft bearing.

Now as for this, ive been seeing these things cost a butt load for what it is. I would try and find one off a low milage junkyard car like im doing. I can get the whole driveshaft for 100 bucks. As for just the bearing, looks like it wouldnt be that hard either.

your call.

I have felt the front part of the rotor and have not noticed any indentation. Ill take it off this weekend and see if there is anything on the back. while im at ill add some of the anitsqueal to see if that does the trick. I changed the fronts and the back at different times and the noise came after doing the back, so I am quite confident that the rotors or pads are the culprits. Hopefully wont have to change them for new ones.

Well seein how you say the sound does go away i would say find out if its the front or back. You say it started after the rears were done. Id start there. Disassemble which ever ones are doin it and apply anti squeal and also i am not sure what pads you are using. If you are using a metallic then i see why, if its a ceramic then who knows. I would rough up the pads with a grinder/sander a little to kinda resurface them. Basically start fresh. Should knock it out.

Also AIBEEKAY....mine has this issue im talking about also. So assuming yours is doin as i think, try to grease it like i plan on doin to save it for a couple years. Here is the link and its about halfway down.....

Hope it helps, both of us
