Default Cut in leather on driver's seat. Are the seat covers removable?

I have nice 3" cut right down the center seam on the seat part of my driver's seat. Is there any way to remove the seat cover, as you can do on some vehicles, to have it professional restitched? I would just replace the seat, but all I can find are seats on eBay and they want to sell the entire set for $500 on up. Are there any other Jaguar or other seats that bolt right up and the electronic connectors still work?

Thanks for your input!
Jon

I know in our town we have a few car interiro shops, they might be able to do it for you for cheap, but don'te quote me on that.

Yes, you can remove the leather. I haven't done it on the X, but usually you would want to start by removing the seat from the car to make it easier to work on. Then there would be upholstry clips or staples at the bottom rear underside of the seat. Start from there and peel it back slowly as you go. You might need to get some upholstry rings or staples and a special tool to reinstall the seat cover after the repair. Or have an upholstry shop do the job for you and probably get better results.

i would definately have an upholstery shop do this if you havent done this type of work. I honestly don't see them charging all that much. Or check with a company called LKQ, they sell stuff on ebay but have warehouses all across the US with all kinds of parts, including seats. I have seen them selling jaguar x-type seats on there before so check that out if you wanted to.

Thanks for all the tips guys! I'll probably just buy a new seat so I don't have to have my car down very long! Thanks!

Buying a new seat will definitely be the more expensive way to go. Hopefully you can find one in good condition, as the drivers seats are obviously usually the more worn of the two.

If it is a seam that has come loose or close to a seam, I would definitely have it repaired and save some $$.

I know it would probably be cheaper to just fix the one seam, but the more I look at the seat, I'm seeing a high probability that it will happen again due to the age and wear. Probably better just to start over with sets from a wrecked low mileage X, if I can find one!

Thanks!
