Default D/S front door lock`

Car. 2005 sold new 2006 X Type RH drive sedan 3L auto 80,000 km. I am 3rd owner.

Problem. The central has been working correctly till recently. It is a double click system one click will unlock D/S front door 2 clicks unlock the rest.

Up till now when the doors are locked to exit the car you only need to use the interior door handle to open the door other doors would also unlock. Now the door will not unlock by using the interior door handle, the handle moves back but no unlocking occurs, the only way to unlock the door is to use the key fob. P/S door will open correctly.

Question How to fix? Do I have a electrical problem or a mechanical door lock issue. The car will lock and unlock with the fob.

Regards,
David Bruce. Queensland Australia.

My bet is on this being a mechanical problem, as your remote still opens the door and most of all because I have taken the door mechanism on my X-Type already apart and the interior door handle is connected to the lock-mechanism via a thick bit of wire.

And recently I picked up a suitable quote somewhere else on this forum:
There are 2 kinds of plastics:
Those, which are broken and those which are about to break.

I can't remember, if the metal wire connects on the interior handle side also to plastic or if that is only on the mechanism side...
I guess that on one of the two ends of the metal wire the plastic is broken off.

PS:
I found the quote again - it is on a recent post in the X308 section: "there's two types of plastic, cracked and about to crack"

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your quick reply. According to my W/S manual and parts list there is a bowden type cable connecting the inner door handle to the outer door handle. Then 2 rods down to the actual door lock. Any thoughts where I should start?

Oh yes, I mixed it up with another car (my van probably) - you are right: it is a bowden type cable (i.e. like the cable from the handbrake to the brake of an old pushbike).
But that changes nothing about the issue with the plastic.
So either on one end of that cable or on the other end I would expect some plastic "receptor" of that bowden cable be be broken off.
As mentioned, I do not know, if it's plastic or metal on the interior handle end, thus I would start by looking at the plastic receptor end on the door look.
This means that you need to remove the interior door trim. There are cheap plastic tools for that purpose available on the usual online seller platforms.
Look for "door trim tool". I have the blue plastic set.
Those tools really help, plus, on the same platforms you will find replacement plastic "door trim fasteners" - replacement for those, which you might break (it's plastic!).

As said, I would expect that you find something broken off on the door lock. What exactly it is would define the next steps - if that can be fixed or if you have to look for a new locking mechanism.

PS:
I just re-read your post above "Then 2 rods down to the actual door lock" - yes: That is what I was thinking of and what I called "metal wire".
And being reminded of that rod:
The most likely fault that you might have is that this rod might not be held firm in the plastic receptor of the lock - I just remembered that now...

PS 2:
I just remembered that I wrote a thread about that:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...r-lock-271041/
look at the last picture of my initial post: That white part, which I labelled as "7" might be worn out and as such not be able to hold that rod in place any more.
I think I described in my thread also how to release and how to re-attach that rod to the door lock mechanism.
