Default Damper on brake pads missing.

I am in the process of changing the rear brakes on the x type 2.1 petrol and noticed that the little rubber damper is missing. I am wondering if anyone knows what this rubber weight does or if left off would there be a not
icable difference. I intend to get a replacement from the scrappys at some point.

Please explain what you mean by rubber damper as I do not recall it when I changed mine.

The rear brakes have an upper and lower noise dampener. Basically a rubber donut. The tech manual and parts book doesn't detail how they mount but they are for noise suppression. They don't affect breaking.

The next pose explains it better. Not all Jaguars have it I hear. I hope that helps.

LUbino, I tossed it from my car right after I got it. Like was mentioned, it was a noise canceller. How well it worked? Well, I didn't notice any difference with it on or off the car. If you don't have it, do not worry about it. It was just one more piece you had to remove to do a brake job.

Well I must admit you learn something every day but my workshop manual doesn't show it and when I changed my discs and pads last year I never noticed it.

I reckon it was only fitted to the earlier type calipers - up to about 2004. My 2003 model had them but my newer one doesn't.
