Dealer says Keys not reprogramming
Hi,
I recently lost both sets of keys to my 2004 x-type. I had a locksmith pick my lock to get to the necessary car documents to be able to order replacements from the dealer. I received the keys (just the bare metal) and with this I was able to get the car open, onto a recovery truck and deleivered to the Jaguar dealer so the keys could have the remotes put in and they could be reprogrammed. The dealer spent a whole day trying to do this and says that the computer they use for connecting to the caris not comminucating with the onboardcomputer. He says that it could be the fact that I had the lock picked or the fact that the alarm went off too many times (every time I opened the door without the transmitter) blocking the system. He now wants to charge my 800euros\£600 to change some board he says requires changing.
I think I am being had. Coming from and IT\Technical background I'm pretty sure the onboard computer, if it is blocked, could probably by factory reset.
Could someone shed some light please.

RE: Dealer says Keys not reprogramming
Have them programme the instrument pack as the car uses PATS system and stores memory for keys etc.
Have them programme it as anew module and it will automatically look for the keys during programming.
The number of alarm activations will not prevent programming.

RE: Dealer says Keys not reprogramming
Hi,
Thanks for the reply and sorry for not answering sooner but I just went to the dealers today after being on the phone to them all of last week without them giving me any concrete answers. Dealer insists a board and a processor module needs changing 'casue it was probably damged due to the 'forced' entry. Would picking the lock somehow activate something with PATS that would damage\short anycomponents?
Plus they want to charge me 7 hours labour!
Thanks once again.

coming from IT field, that doesn't make sense at all. Logically if you think about it, by picking the lock it might have caused somewhat of an ERROR which should be able to reset or reprogrammed like factoryjaguartech said above.
I would call another dealership and ask their opiniion as well to see if you get the same answer from them. Otherwise find out what powers the system and try to disconnect the power source from it. (disconnect battery ??)

Dealership will need ID and proof of ownership. Cant just be cutting keys for anyone off the street.
7 hours of labour is BS btw.
Dealer needs to erase old keys and programme new. Like I said, tell them to programme IPK as a new module. No more than 1 hour needed.

There is a tab in the ignition cyclinder that often gets stuck and will disable you from reprogramming the remote and sometimes limit your use of the fob altogether. Root oround in there with the key and see if you can feel what i am talking about. Only use your key or blank though so you so not damage it. There should be resistance when you first put the key in and almost a kickback when you take it out.

Hey FJT, didn't know that Jag uses the PATS module as well.
In theory couldn't these guys take it over to Ford and get it done for much less?
Case in point, I got my Contour's PAT keys programmed for $30/key including mold. This was a great deal and was done 5/6 years ago. I think nowadays PATs programming goes about $80/90 key at the Ford dealership.
Just food for thought, as I had no idea Jag used PATs.

Finally got the car back. ancientsanskriti did try that option (calling theFord garage) but they said it ws a no go. After much arguing I ended up paying for just a processor board (I've got the 'faulty' one so they must have changed it) that cost 215 euros and instead of 7 hours labour 'just' 3. I just wanted the car back and was willing to pay what I did. Total cost of work including reprogramming the keys 600 euros. Thats the last time I'm going to that dealer.
Trying to sell the car anyway!
Thanks to everyone for theire advice.
By the way does anyone know where I can buy the tow-away hook cover. Mine got lost when I towed the car to the dealer. Please don't say I can get it from the dealer!
