Dealership Issues
This was part of my last e-mail to the dealership, where I tell him that I will ask others. Other components of the e-mail are not posted in orderto protect the identity of this dealership.... I would like to resolve this issue without permanently damaging my relationship withthe dealership, since as I said with the exception of this incident they have been really wonderful. Certainly ifI was to devulge their name, it would be only after discussing this with the owner:
A few points:
1. I will ask people about the shifter cable whether it is reasonable for normal wear that the cable will need to be adjusted within 10 months of servicing. This has not been history with my car, so I think it is more likely that the cable was not adjusted properly after the last service and as it was explained to me byyour dealershipthat the workmanship at a Jaguar dealership is guaranteed for 1 year or 20,000km (whichever comes first). Also concerning the sublet company, it wasyou who subcontracted the rebuild of my transmission; problems you have with your subcontractors would not be my concern. I was very disappointed at the time with usingyour subcontractor,I would have preferred AAMCO who would provide a lifetime warranty. It was explained to me that the warranty of my transmission (as my car) was being held by EasyCare for the life of my contract. Further, if you intend to charge me the shop time for this adjustment, it certainly would be within the 1.5 hours my car was in the shop.
If your explanation of the shifter cable is shown to be reasonable, I will be willing to pay for the 1.5 hours my car was being serviced (1.5hours x $119.95 = $179.93). With my $220 credit less the servicing cost and parts cost leaves my costs at $27.73 ($220credit – $179.93servicing – $16 handle - $34springs + $17.80 taxes).
He has written back agreeing to the $27.73, however before settling this I will also give him this board's postings forhis consideration.
I will let you know the final outcome. Thanks for all the wonderful input, I think these boards are one of the most wonderful aspects of the internet.... the great equalizer! Think of the outcome without this resource.
I'm with fjt I'd rather not direct them here. To me you should have stood your ground with the cable but since you gave them the out of you still getting 27 bucks, that's about the only thing you can do now...I wouldn't have put that up quite yet.
I thought thatthese message boards are monitored by Jaguar Engineers, Executives, and Technicians, not to mention Service Managers. As with all other automakers, Jaguar must monitor and dialog on these boards to resolve issues, glean unfettered feedback and test out new ideas. I would be surprised ifother Dealershipswere not monitoring these boards too.
I have not settled yet, however like I said earlier, this has beena great dealership in the past, and whenmistakes were made, they would stand by their work without charge - good for 1 year or 20,000km. It is only this new Service Manager who has taken exception to this policy, I think he is coming around, so $27 is not much to pay with this in mind. In the beginning the credit was to exhausted by the service and parts.

Well think about it. If you work somewhere and your out giving away secrets and help to someone so they don't have to pay for service or go to a dealer what do you think your employer would think about what your doing? They probably wouldn't like it! Keep in mind the guys here would like to remain anonymous as they are a great help to us that we should in our minds be indebted to. I know they've saved me thousands of dollars and I found out my car was under warranty. Please keep this in mind, your not just affecting yourself but others as well.
Point taken, I will not mention this board, only that I've talked to others. Certainly the information here was valuable is resolving my issue and I would not want to do something to jeopardizethis resourcein the future. However, I would be surprised if Dealerships and Jaguar as businesses were not active on these boards, makes good business sense to be on top of things.
Cheers

Good,
Honestly good real dealerships don't need to look at the boards. The dealer I used had rewards for taking care of their business and have no use of using these forums. You'd be surprised how many good dealerships there are that actually take care of the customer. Generally here on the forums your only going to hear about the bad ones not the good ones. For instance say you go to mcdonalds and order a double cheeseburger and it sucks, if you were irrritated enough chances are you'd complain. Now on the other hand say that burger was the best you've ever had, what are the chances you'd call to say something good? The chances of everyone hearing problems are very high! Another for instance would be the negative attention that celebrities get, the second they are doing one wrong thing it gets blown up to such a huge scale that there's no way you could hear positive publicity, that's why they rarely if ever watch, read or care about what the publications are saying.
