Did front brakes today
Ok, I did them this past weekend, but I'm just getting around to posting the pics. Nothing too special.. oem rotors and pads, which it really needed. Also spent a little time sanding and painting. I think a little gloss black here and there makes all the difference!
Prepping the rotors.
I sanded all the black paint that came on them and cleaned them thouroughly. Then I taped off the actual braking surface, and painted them front and back (back not pictured) and down into the vents on the edges.

Here I started wirebrushing the calipers to get some of the loose old paint off. They didn't necessairly look *bad* before, but were starting to chip.. and that would look too good with what's being delivered tomorrow..
Note the popsickle sticks used to rotate and prop the calipers away from the caliper bracket to allow enough room to paint. I did it this way so I wouldn't have to remove the calipers from the car, and in turn having to bleed the brakes.

Painted. I didn't paint the hub itself because I've been having trouble with getting the wheels to not seize to the hubs, so I left them unpainted, cleaned them, and applied a thin coat of grease to help prevent the problem.

I think it looks a MILLION times better, especially the tierod end, sway bar, and shock.
EDIT: Something else I wanted to note..
If you look closely, you'll see I didn't leave a clean, sharp paint edge on the face of the rotors, coming away from the top hat section. I did this so after a couple drives the pads would remove the paint where it needed to be done, leaving a sharp edge, and no ring of rust that occurs when enough of the rotors isn't painted.

Love it 310.....absolute brilliant job bro

I think its sumthin I may have to revisit as I wanted to paint the outer edges of the rotors but never got round to it.
Great post.....

Yeah 310 that looks freakin' awesome! If I get those rims I'll definitely be repainting all of my stuff...I was planning on painting the calipers again but now I'm going to have my work cut out for myself now!

Thanks gang. I got out and washed the car today (despite it being 40*), and got it pretty clean. I noticed a couple chips on the calipers, but nothing serious enough to make me want to get out there and touch them up in this weather.. haha
Despite those few small chips, they actually look pretty good. Anytime I wash the car I try to liberally clean them with some tough degreaser and brush them as thouroughly as possible.

Looks great, very impressive the amount of work you put in, well worth it though! Did mine in black also. Love the look! I found some chips in mine and used a q-tip to do a quick touch up. (of course its a little warmer where I am!)
I've been threatening to post some pics of my brake setup....guess now is as good as ever....just went out and clicked off a couple...yes I know the wheels are dirty, but its after midnight....black calipers w/ EBC Red Stuff pads and EBC rotors. Added the white decals and they seem to be staying on fine. Front.....

RedJag - the brakes look great. I think the next time around I'll go the EBC route.

Dennis mate......so glad you revived this post as I'll be doing mine as soon as the weather breaks.
I reckon I'll be using this technique or similar at least
Fantastic
