Default Difference between 03 and 05 nav systems?

I have a 2003 X_type with a nav system and over 200K miles. I just bought a 2005 X_type with no nav system. Can I swap them?

I notice that on ebay they are careful to specify the year of compatability
for nav system components. They are either 02 to 03 or 04 to 08. This
implies that there was a major change starting in 04. Is this correct
or am I misunderstanding something?

Thanks,
Pete.

From my knowledge, people on ebay who actually don't own the cars notice that there is a difference between 02-03 and 04-08 just because 02-03 used the viscous coupling in the transfer case and 04-08 didn't. The only thing that would worry me is that the steering wheel on the 04-08 is also different. My point is, when someone puts lists a part on ebay, you put in which year the part came from and then ebay automatically assigns that to the different "body styles" of the car. The thing is that ebay recognized the 02-03 as a different body style to the 04-08. I have bought many parts for my car that say 04-08 just because it came off of an 06 or something like that, but it works fine in my 02. The main thing is that ebay doesn't want to get sued, and they think that the from 03 to 04, the x type underwent a body style change. Hope that makes sense and answers your question.

One way you might be able to tell is to check on part numbers for replacement components. Check for the number of the head unit and see if it obviously changed (see Nally (sp?) that supports this forum). If the numbers are the same then I think you could safely conclude that they are the same. Things would not be so clear if the numbers didn't match.
