Default direct exchange of Nav and trip computer 2006

Hello
I have a base model x type 2006. Is it possible to switch out the standard radio/CD unit for the upgraded nav system unit as a direct swap or will it need to be programmed when installed?
Same for the trip computer system with the buttons in the light switch?
Thanks

Huge job for no return as the stock NAV maps are way out of date. A better option is search this forum for posts by Dennis Black on various replacement upgrades.

You need a lot of parts to make the change. It's been many years since I did it, but off the top of my head you will need:
DVD drive in trunk
GPS antenna
Screen of the appropriate kind ( black/silver/ heated windshield or non heated)
Remote climate controller
You will also need the appropriate fibre optic harness and you will have to make a wiring harness to go from under the rear seat to the dash. Cars with nav have different dash harnesses, and an additional harness that runs the length of the car. Some of these wires are shielded, that has to be present.

This is an all-or-nothing conversion, you either should not try, or it all has to be done correctly. There are 3 different computer networks that pass through the climate and radio and they all have to be connected properly to work. When I was doing the conversion I had the radio unplugged and thought I'd move the car. It wouldn't start because a network was interrupted.

Officially, Jaguar says that cars can't be converted to having the nav system. They can, but you can't do it with factory parts. You will have to fabricate a wiring harness, and source three different types of factory connectors to plug into the various components and sub-harnesses already in the car. I was able to scavenge them from various Fords and Jaguars at the junkyard, but it took some time.
