Default Disconnect Blower Motor

My blower motor has stopped working on my 2002 X-Type, w/ climate control. I believe it stopped due to water damage coming in through the cabin filter opening. I want to remove the motor and replace it with a new motor.
I’ve tried to disconnect the cable from the motor before removing the three screws. However every thing I’ve tried will not disengage the connector lock from the motor connector. Is there some trick to unlock the connector so I can remove the blower motor?

Thank you Dell Gailey, I’ve done 99 % of the tests. Still no motor. I’m looking for the trick to disconnect the plug from the motor for removal. After 30 minutes of trying to disconnect the plug, nothing seems to work in getting the plug lock to disengage

Thats what I’m now looking for, how to get the plug lock to disengage from the motor

Are you pushing in the release tab?

Dell, yes even tried using a pair of pliers. Doesn’t seem to move. I’ve pushed to plug in and at the same time push on the tab to get it to disengage.
No luck. I’ll continue to work on it. Was just wondering if there was something I was missing.
thanks for your help. Hopefully I’ll be able to get the blower working before it gets cold.

I was able to drop the motor, and test it still connected. It would jerk about 3-4 times, stop, then jerk a few more time, but wouldn’t run it steady. Disconnected it, put the motor on the bench. Connected 12vdc to the contacts. It did exactly the same thing, jerk a few times, the stop, then jerk again. I’m assuming the motor is toast.
I ordered another motor.
in the meantime, I removed the cowl (it was rubbish), and the pollen filter holder. Discovered the filter had two repaired cracks in it. Whoever did the repairs did a poor job. I repaired the cracks, installed the factory water shield, cleaned up the firewall of the old foam seal, replacing it with a butyl seal. Put everything back together ( pending the receipt of the motor and new OEM cowl). Tested for water leaks-not a drop!
As soon as get the new cowl from SNG Barratt and motor, hopefully I’ll have a working HVAC. Fingers crossed

Default It works

Just an update. Installed the new blower motor. Works as designed. 👍
Now, just received the finisher cowl from SNG. Last project for this weekend. No more water leaks into the passenger cab.
