Do the dealer drain the transfer case during regular maintenance?
I have a 2002 Jaguar x-type 3.0 L with 121,000 miles. I get regular service done to it, and was wondering if the dealer refills the fluids on the transfer case during regular maintenance. I have done ALL of the service checks at a jag dealer? thanks!
Nope and I would doubt they would. There is only a drain plug (no fill plug) so there is no way to check or top it off from factory. What you need is to install a oneway valve on the drain plug to pump in fluid. WildBill sells a kit, I bought it rather then trying to reinvent the wheel it works good but in reality if you're handy you can come up with the same set up at Home Depot for $50 or so.
I would ask YOUR dealership that question. Mine claims that they do that and drain/refill the auto tranny at 100,000 miles. They also however claim that there's no need to do it any sooner than that (hello?).
No, its not part of a regular scheduled maintenance schedule from Jaguar. (should be) I would do it and the drain and fill port are the same. You jack up the car about18-24" to the pinch mold from the ground (I don't remember but Ive posted it here before) and fill.

I honestly have no idea how to do any of these things. I will talk to my dealer and ask them what needs to be done, and if it can be done. They may not want to. What are the symptoms to look for when a transfer case is going out? -just for future reference
I have had a bad bearing replaced before, so I know the sound it makes. Will the TC case typically just go out, or will the symptoms linger for a few days? I just want to know so that if it does start going bad, I will know and can trade it in and dump it off to avoid major repair.
