Default Door handle fix?

I thought I remember seeing a post on how to fix the door handle issue, where the door handle lifts up but does not open the door. Can someone repost the fix info. or point me to the post?

Thanks!

Jeez......you'll be lucky Xtype.......It sounds like the same problem that Aquill n I have. Although mine is intermittent somehow. Weird!
I think I did remember sumthin useful being posted about it, but not the specifics. I'll have a look and see if I can find it, but I think it was quite sometime ago[&:]

I figured out how to open the door. I just have to push on it and it clicks, then the door handle works fine. It's almost like it doesnt shut all the way, or something like that.

As for the fix, I thought I remember the post saying something about bending the thin rod inside the door panel, but wanted to be sure before I go tearing into the car.

Try this link Xtype and see how you get on. Also there is a step by step guide on door panel removal in the FAQ section.
Hope this helps

Cheers

Hi Xtype, sorry bro, still no definitive answer. There seems to be agreement that it is acommon problem related to door latches and or cables being stretched. I have posted some other replies to the same issue. As yet, mine still play up from time to time although have worked absolutely normally for the past 3 months or so...weirddd!!

An answer to the problem I reported some time ago - Hi Jim sorry I cant give a better answer but i had the same problem (common with x types im told) I took mine to a local independant jag specialists (not a dealer) They repaired it 5 weeks ago ...opens every time now ...it was driving me batty cost me £80

Sorry, know it doesn't help much, but just for info...not sure if its your drivers door handle thats gone or not? It is on mine[&:]

As with many new models, the X-type had a few 'bugs' associated with the initial model year, including:
[ul]Leaking/dripping washer jets
Defective boot latch
Faulty J-gate selector
Vibration issues (Sometimes poor tires/balancing, sometimes a prop-shaft problem)
Faulty drivers door latch
"Squeaky" rear seat
Faulty Thermostats, resulting in "High Engine Temperature" warnings
Weak center arm rest [/ul]
Most of these quirks have now be corrected under warranty and shouldn't be a problem if you are looking at an early X-type.

Guys, thanks for all the info and links in this thread. I had an exterior door handle that was sticking out from the car (maybe a quarter inch) and this info helped me solve that little problem and put the door back together properly. It was super easy!
