Default Doors won't open (Sometimes)

I have an X-Type 3.0 SE 2002 which has been as good as gold till the cold weather this year. Now for some reason I don’t understand the front passenger door sometimes refuses to unlock and the driver’s door can’t be opened from the outside. Has anyone had this problem before? Does anyone know of a solution?
Bob

I had the same issue with my passenger's door wouldn't open from the outside.. i sprayed some good ol' WD40 on the door locks and it took care of the issue.. hope it works for you

Hey guys, this is a fairly common issue especially on the older X types 02 -04 thereabouts.
Check out this thread........https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...t=door+handles

Also please visit the X type quick FAQ link thread where there's tons n tons of info for you guys. If you do try to tackle this problem yourself there's a door card removal thread c/w pics and a full write up too...

Good luck guys

If you give the door a bit of a push IN, just above the handle, and then try and open it and it works, it's probably the start of the internals of the handle mechanism starting to go. Whatever that little plastic part in there is called.

That plastic part really seems to be a weak point of the door handle design. I wonder if I could take a replacement to a CNC machine shop and get something identical milled out of aluminum? Has anyone tried to fabricate a more durable replacement?

I hate how annoying the interior door handles are too open on mine. People always try to get out of my car and wonder if the handles are broken.

Matt....excellent idea
Why not go for it? While you're checking it out ask what the price would be or 20 or 30 etc etc and check out a group buy here on site?
I'm sure there'd be more than a little interest
