Driver Door Lock stopped working
My Blue V6 Petrol 2.5L has been stored in an open space over winter and I have been resolving issues to get it back on the road
Todays issue, but not just today is that the Driver door Lock (RHD) has decided to fail - I was looking to understand why the internal handle pull failed to open the door, outside handle worked, fob is not configured - another issue, yes I know the process its just not working, anyway pulled door apart and in trying various opening combinations with the door open (phew, was nearly going to close the door) I tripped the latch closed and nothing would move it open, none of the mechanical or electronic means. Luckily I have another X Type, 3 years younger so extracted the lock from that.
To remove the latch/actuator you need to move the security shield and finally fought it into a position that allowed extracting the lock.
Reinstalled the lock, with some fiddling, pushing and some cursing then I tried to move the security shield back, not very successful just budged a bit. No problem I thought I can leave that....
Time to move the car to a new patch, pushed the button to open the drivers window, and crunch, window goes into a do I go up or go down dance, turn off power quickly and realise the shiled is now in the path of the glass.
How do I either remove the
thing or get it back up to its original position
All comments welcome
TIA

I hazard a few guesses on those various issues:
> why the internal handle pull failed to open the door,
That can only be a mechanical issue - did a plastic part on one end or the other of the cable (holding the cable into position) break or did the cable slip out of position there?
> and realise the shiled (=security shield) is now in the path of the glass.
Why can't you move the glass up again? And what exactly is the sec. shield? A picture?
> TIA
At least it's only a temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain that causes stroke-like symptoms but does not result in permanent brain damage because the blockage typically dissolves or dislodges within minutes to a few hours. (TIA = Transient Ischemic Attack)

Thanks in arrears
My first thought was the cable, but that was secure and moving the lever on the body.
I am resigned to the fact that the actuator has failed, they just can after 20+ years of use, its this shield I need to shift
Will supply pics

I had the door cards off both my front doors last week. Before doing the job I watched some Youtube vids. One shows a metal shield over the door lock that has plastic clips holding it in. The clip or clips were removed and after much fuss the guy was able to get his lock/latch out and replaced. The one with the plastic shield was just pried up a bit over the lip of the door then pushed down into the door and out. Other videos don't mention any shield. I didn't know what to expect but was happily surprised to find my doors have none of these shields.
This is the video with the metal shield. You can skip ahead to about 6 minutes in to see the shield.
This one also shows the metal shield.
This is the video with the plastic shield. Removed starting about 3 minutes into the video.

Thanks for those, the first was my reference, but he is a bit vague about repositioning the shield back again, which seems to be a black art.
when he gets to about 18 minutes in I share his frustration - only I'm still frustrated
The last video is for the rear door a much simpler affair apparently.
My understanding is that this is a UK markets fitment to stop stealing of the prestige cat, I'm sure other markets had them, but I did hear that it wasn't deemed needed for you guys, (Americans)
