Default Dying battery

I am just wondering if anyone has tried to rejuvinate their battery? I have just topped up my battery with - full litre of deionised water and in the process of desulphinating it with a battery desulphinating unit. It takes ages but my plan is to drain the battery about three times and th n recharge it again. I will let you know how it all goes. I couldn't track any Epsom salts to help the cells but I will see how it all go s.

From what I have read on X type forums,:-
A poor battery will also throw up all sorts of confusing faults.
Most folks seem to say once the battery is suspect get a new one rather than continue hoping it will survive.

Well it could be an easy fix and only costs. 83p. I am testing it rout just now. The lights have been left on for an hour now and the car still starts easily. I am going to run it close to dead and will desulphate again. looks promising, I am thinking that e throw batteries away as the electrolyte has evaporated away.

New battery! Don't take a chance. It's not that expensive.

It's the fun of recovering it too if I am being honest. As mentioned, i am testing the battery like mad. There is a danger that if you mess up, then you will need to replace the alternator too as that will be over worked (just in case anyone else wants to try this).
At present , the car hold a charge for 2 hours with the lights on and no ignition which is not bad for an almost dead battery and I am hoping that the second desulphation should allow it to go to about 3 hours which is more than enough. I have ordered pure magnesium suphate to help increase the rate of cleaning of the plates however I may never get round to using it as the battery seems pretty powerful to me as it stands
For reference . Calcium batteries will show a decent voltage even when they are run down to nothing. This effectively means your battery will show up as fully charged on a battery charger and then can die on the first start. You have to watch out for this.

You are correct in saying that batteries are not that expensive, I like the challenge. More of a challenge of say just fitting one. There must be other people like me on this forum!

Have fun. I prefer the challenge of being lazy and would just replace the battery.

To report back, the test has been successful. The battery is easily holding its charge and leaving the lights on for 2 hours does not kill it. I did not add the epsoms salts as I want d to get chemically pure salts (which I now have) nonetheless it worked.
I am rejuvenating another battery using salts and distilled water although I hav not tested it yet.

I have read where people take a welder and tap it to the terminals causing the growths in the battery that cause it to discharge to be removed via the high electrical surge, pretty much vaporizes them and severing the voltage exchange between cells. I would assume your approach does the same thing via a chemical process dissolving the growths.

Not too sure. I just picked this method and it seems to work. Car has been perfect since.
