Default Engine cover

I just got a engine cover off eBay for $40. There must be some type of brackets to mount it. I can get inner hole to mount but that is all. I have cold air intake Anyone have any idea how it's kept in place. The motor diagrams I have found just show cover and no way to mount it

The pdf is missing an item I think. There should be something keeping the bracket (number 2) about an inch from the engine. I recall it's a part of the airbox, there's a brass fitting inside the rubbery grommet that can be used to do the job. I had to leave the corner of the airbox on for a while, because the intake resonator is fixed onto it and would rattle around otherwise.

The only issue that arises is removing the bracket (2), there are those brass things under the bracket. When you pull the bolts (4), you have to be ready to catch them or they'll fall down somewhere.

Oh thats what the brackets look like. I also bought a cover off Ebay and found no fixing brackets. I've fashioned some myself and it looks ok.

I got one off of eBay a while back and had to order the brackets from JPLV. The bad part, Jaguar doesn't make the rear bracket anymore, so you just have to make do with the front (which holds it very well).

Make sure the cover you got came with the rubber piece that goes around the oil-fill area, that makes sure it's tight on there (especially if you don't have rear bracket). I had to look for a while on eBay to find one that came with it.

Howdy,
I'm wondering if this engine cover is supposed to belong on all X-Types ?
Or,
Was the cover only introduced on later models ?

My 2004 LE Sports does not have the mentioned cover either.... so can anyone from Jaguar - shed any light on this ?

I will post a pic of someone else's car with the engine cover fitted

I think I have a solution. It looks like I can use the Spectre mounting hardware I used on the cold air intake . Going to parts store now and see if it works. If not jag dealer says he can get me both brackets for $70

I'm under the impression that some of the earlier models had them, later ones didn't. No idea why. Also, the cover on the photo is painted.

Here's some data, I found number 3 from here for example.

Hmmmm momentum is gathering....
Suggesting these engine covers were omitted on some Models ?

Perhaps.... never fitted on LE Sports Models ?
Or,
Possibly.... Only fitted to the soft-ride Chromed-up Models ?

All very interesting stuff......

I have one on my 2002 and I too have the spectre intake. They look really good together. Just fashion some brackets or some zip ties.

Here's a thread with photos.

Here's mine, though while the tubing is Spectre the cone itself is an AEM DryFlow. I wanted to avoid the oiling process. The photo is from a weird angle because I was playing with the DoF, so the tubes are not actually visible in that

ok you can use the spectre cold air mounting hardware to instal this motor cover. i did you need 3 to 4 mounting kits. i had some left over from air intake and purchased 2 more kits. its a little tricky to get it just right but all you need to really work on is a way to mount your air baffler but if you already have CAI you should have one. i used a peice of carbon fiber. im gonna go back and pull it off and paint all the silver hardware black to be less noticeable. dark when i got done so not really sure how much will be noticeable. right now all looks pretty darn good. if anybody is interested in going this route for mounting ill post pics. im gonna take some before and after i paint to show how it is set up. i gotta get it clean up now for car show tomorrow and drive on the VIR race track.

I've had my MY2005 since new and it came without a cover. I prefer it that way! When I open the bonnet I want to see the engine and whether there are any early signs of leaks, etc. An engine is a beautiful piece of engineering - it doesn't deserve to be kept in a burka!
