engine management light not working
HELP Please my 2003 2.1 petrol x type has failed its mot on the engine management light not coming on on start up .but thinking about it ,i have never noticed it come on since i have owned the car, it has passed previously, i now have a feeling it has had a wire cut maybe in the harness somewhere,as i have checked the instrument cluster, and cant see anything covering the bulb, but i need to know the pin out number on the cluster or what colour wire i should be trying to trace, any help would be greatly appreciated.
The engine management light is a surface mount led.
The light is controlled by a surface mount chip.
The chip is controlled by serial data, so there is no external wire to the instrument cluster that controls just the engine management light.
When I bought my car, the dodgy dealer opened up the instrument cluster and covered the led with black tape !
Prior to buying the car the eml was on, and the dealer said he was going to replace a faulty sensor to sort it !
To sort this out I removed the cluster and carefully dismantled the case then removed the rev counter and speedo needles, then you can remove the instrument decal to gain access to the surface mount eml led.
