Ward, on the side of the chips is there any black writing. If you can see it, could you send me the numbers. I can probably cross reference the diode information and find you a viable chip to put in there. Those LEDs are known as "SMD LEDs" (aka, surface mount diode LEDs". You can do some looking under "SMD LED", but there are lots of variations on the same thing. So, a bit more information is needed before you just start buying stuff. You have difference voltages, difference light intensities, light colors, etc. This is where the numbers on the side are going to be helpful. Granted, I fear that the numbers are on the backside (towards the board) and you won't be able to see/read them.

Seeing as they don't work now you can take a soldering iron and carefully remove them and then look for the part number. What have you got to lose at this point?
