Engine Number location
I realise this should be posted somewhere on here, but I can't find it. I have a 2007 X-Type Jag, with a 2.1 litre petrol engine, located in Australia (RH drive). I need to identify/verify my engine number for a new change of state inspection and have no idea where the engine number is stamped. Please could someone assist me? Thanks.

Follow the link below. I posted a picture of the location from the tech manual.

Thanks, avern1, but I don't think that reference applies to my 2.1 petrol engine. At least, I can't find it, and I cannot find any of the ones suggested on Google, with the possible exception of one, that tells me it is not visible with the engine fitted????? Oh well, I guess I might have a problem, ad so may all off the drivers with my engine.

Motorcarman who has been working on these cars for quite some time says this in another post =
Most of the numbers on the side of the block are the alpha/numeric coding for the piston/cylinder and crank bearing/journal sizing info. The serial number (manufacture time/date) is at the front 'B'bank side of the thermostat housing mount hole on many engines. Jaguar JEPC lists the number at the rear of the 'B'bank cylinder head on the bell housing casting area but all the engines I have are not numbered there. Check both places for your engine number.

My mechanic found it. It is visible from below the engine, on the web of the engine, right hand side, above the exhaust, and next to the oil filter. Once you know where it is, it is easy to see. I am so happy it matches the paperwork, so have no problems with all the tranfers, and all is well once again. Woo Hoo! Thanks to all who assisted in my quest.
