Default Engine Problems

I have a 2002 x-type, 3.0 that has the check engine light on. I had this checked at autozone and it all seems to relate to the MAF sensor. I think the codes were P0174, P0171, P1111, PThe car began to sputter and would even die. I was always able to restart the car, but this last time it died while at a stop light and it has not restarted.

I have replaced the MAF and breather hose. I've seen I may need to replace my imt sensors, but I don't know where they are. I'm also afraid my catalytic converter is blocked and will needs to be replaced.
At this point the car will crank, but never start.

I'm clueless when it comes to cars, so an explantion your mom would understand is appreciated. Pictures would even help!!

Search this site under the X-Type for those codes (P0171 and P0174) and/or vacuum leaks and you will find the three culprits. Brake boost hose, PCV hose and IMT o-rings. Usually act up when it gets colder. None are difficult fixes. Should be pictures in the threads as well. The only thing that is troublesome is that car won't restart? That is unusual with those codes. The P1111 is nothing to be concerned about.

What I believe you read on the IMT CONTROL VALVES is that the O-Rings (rubber seals) need to be replaced. Not the valves themselves. The IMT valves are located on the big silver intake ontop the engine just forward of the firewall. These are speculated to be a main cause of misfires in Bank 1 (cylinders 1,3,5 Passenger side) which would be throwing different "P" codes.
Diagnose of codes P0174 and P0171 also point to the fuel filter as well. Have you replaced that yet?
Also states air leak between the MAF sensor and cylinderhead. Exhaust leak before Catalyst.
Before I start throwing money around at expensive maybes... I would change the fuel filter.
Good Luck

Thanks for the response. I replaced the fuel filter about 8 months ago, so I don't think that is an issue. I'll try the O-rings today and give an update.

The more I read the more I'm thinking my fuel pump is bad and should be replaced. I've checked the break boost hose and there is no damaged to it. I need to replace the o-rings, but I don't see how this is going to make the car magically start. What cha think?

My ride ( a different make but OBD II ) also throws same codes which is down to lean
mixture . However, if happended after PCM tuned so my case is slightly different and I think you may need O2 sensors as well

Ok....replaced the o-rings and it will crank but not start. I don't see anything visible wrong with the break breath hose either, so I did not change that out.

I heard mention of the 02 sensors, but will need to do more research to see if this fits my problem.

Fuel pumps are in the fuel tank..this is not an easy job ..you must drain the tank and then drop it to get to the pumps on the top side of the tanks..there is also some poor fitting 'O" rings too that needs to be replaced on the pumps..

Sorry for the negative news, but I just had my level sensors replaced for gauge read out and the pumps are part of those sensors assy's

check for fuel pressure. After cranking, press the fuel shraeder on the fuel rail(looks like a tire valve) if no fuel squirts out you need a pump. But kinda of hard to internet diag that problem
