hi first time user, bought my first jaguar 2 days ago 2001 x type 2.5 i love it a stunning red.was told the abs light comes on and goes off which it does.was told he had replaced the pads bearings and sensor but that i might just need bedding in.but today engine management light came on and wont go off.also when i put my foot on revs when stood still and try and hold it below 3000 revs it drops and goes back up repeatedley.what could it be

 

i went back to it and now it holds revs perfectley still engine light on thou

 

a check engine light can mean a thousand things. Go to a place like autozone and get them to read the codes. Lots of places will read the codes for free and let you know exactly why the check engine light came on.

 

wallseyboy, are you saying that if you try to rev the engine above 3,000 RPM, the engine will rev up, but once it exceeds 3,000 RPM, it will seem like it is starving for fuel and the RPMs will drop back down below 3,000, only to go back up and just hover around 3,000? If this is the case, for what you are experiencing, that is normal. You are experiencing a condition where the computer is attempting to protect the engine due to the perceived fault. Like was mentioned, get the codes read inside of the car and let us know which codes you are getting. From there, we can help you figure out what is wrong. I would venture to guess that you have either a bad ABS computer or a wire going out to one of the wheel speed sensors.

 

thank you for the replys,yes the revs would shoot down and back up again if i trying to hold them below 3000rpm but ok above.but got up this morning and engine light went off on way to drop kids off.abs came on once while driving around doing my bits,but went off if i stop and started engine again.if i go and get the place to read will it still come up with the fault even i its not showing warning light.
