fault codes
Hi,
I've just bought this Jag 2002 x type after my 2003 xtype was RIP.
I've found check engine light and able to get these codes: P1637,P1638,P1642,P1647,P0733,P1734,P1747,P0733.

Kira, based on the codes that you are seeing, I would first start with having a load test done of your battery. I know it sounds silly, but even if the battery is marginal (still ok to start the car, but not at 100%), it can cause the ECU to act up and give you random codes like what you are seeing.
After that, based on the codes, you have some CAN bus failures and other circuits that the ECU monitors. IT would appear to me that your ECU is on its way out. Granted, the shift solenoid fault code is kinda interesting, which is why I point back to the battery first.

Thanks for the information. I've no knowledge about cars. So I've changed the battery and see that the same problem exists. same codes.
how can I fix this problem. If I change ECU, do I need to get it programmed by dealer or just fixing it will be fine??

as per the codes stated above, I found no mechanic who can fix my car. so I've decided to tow my car to Jag dealer who is located 20 miles away.
Am not sure about the cost to fix this CA/network malfunction.
can someone give me an estimate to fix those codes by dealer??
if its done by dealer, how much may it cost ??
** can I switch 2003 Jag X type computer to 2002 Jag xtype of 2.5l.

After you changed the battery did you clear the codes and then they still came up the same or did you just change the battery? If you didn't clear the codes after the battery swap try that and see if the same ones come up because if you just read the codes they will still stay stored.
