Default Fault light on diesel model

I have the X type 2009 for about 5 weeks, I have the 2.2l diesel
The problem I'm having is the orange warning light and the glow plug light (which is in leiu of the engine warning light) comes and the digital readout says "gearbox fault".
this has occurred 4 times in 3 weeks
the second time I had the cruise on and I couldnt accelerate.
in all instances I pulled over and switched off, then on and all was well.
I've been to a mechanic but their diagnostic tool is u/s and awaiting a new one, anyone else had this problem? or any ideas where to start looking.
Thanks

Re the cruise control, there was a recall last year. Have you been into Jaguar for that. It was free.
RE the glow plugs. Have you had any modification to the engine. remapping or power box fitted? Sometimes the engine does not get enough fuel when you accelerate in higher gears causing limp mode to engage if you have this done.
Not sure about the gearbox. There's a forum member called Thermo who will probably be able to tell you more.
Also this forum mainly has members from the US and most have petrol versions of the car. You are more likely to find similar car owners on JaguarForum.co.uk

Cheers.

been to a jag dealer but their diagnostic toll has s..t itself so waiting for a new one.
its happened 4 times now with and without the cruise on.
will have to wait til nov 4th.
also theres now an annoying rattle evry time the right rear wheel goes over a bump
had the car jacked up and knocked around a bit with a rubber mallet cant find a rattle.
all these little things are spoiling what should be a nice ride.
just got my new rego plates "Jagur)"
thanks for the reply anyway
yes I did look at UK site but most of their problems are due to the wet weather.
Its like calinfornia here in Adelaide.

I've not heard of 'calinfornia' but I imagine it's a lot sunnier than Manchester uk which is wetter than an otter's pocket.
Maybe ask Thermo on this site. He seems to have a good knowledge of cars in general and might be able to give you a few possibles to psychologically prepare you for the Jaguar dealerships diagnosis and costing.
I hope its nothing major and all is sorted swiftly.

Cheers

Jonsey I cant believe you havent heard of California USA, any way Adelaide Australia is very sunny and dry.
The car would not start when it came time to take it in, it would fire but stall, called the RAA (our AA) and they couldnt help so had it towed to the shop, they had it for 2 days and couldnt get it stated or get any fault codes to come up, so now its been towed to a Jaguar specialist who had a quick look and looked very puzzled they are going to spend more time on it after the weekend, I expect the bill is going to be very big I hope the car yard I bought it from cooperates.
no one seems to have any idea whats going on, not a very pleasant first time jaguar experience, It makes me wonder if I will keep it now as I will be constantly worrying about it breaking down.
I thought the modern jags were very reliable.

Sorry man. It's my fault for being sarcastic about the initial way you'd spelt California. Pedantic and picky.

Sorry your Jag is still having problems. If it helps I haven't had a problem with mine yet and have had it for a year. Mine is a 2006 2.2D its done nearly 60k miles. Hope yours is a cheap fix.

My dad has a Ford transit 2009 which has the same engine as yours. He started loosing power around 60K miles. Apparently the turbos are bad on the newer engines and I think there are some motions to try and get the turbos recalled. although I cant be sure there any success in this area. But some people seemt o have similar problems on tranist forums. Perhaps you can find an answer there.

Other than that I can offer no more useful information.

Cheers.

Default 2.2d

Ahh! I missed the joke I didnt spot the spelling mistake.
This computer network is so slow sometimes I've finished typing when the screen finally displays the words.
Still no news on the car its been towed to a second repairer who specialises in jags and they've had it for 4 days now and no calls
My little MX5 is getting a work out now, as its usually just a weekender.
Thanks for your info anyway and I'll report back if and when I get any news.

Default fault found!

Guys as promised am reporting back about apparent gearbox fault
well they tell me after 2 months they have found the problem, not
a gearbox fault but a fuel pump, I thought they changed it weeks ago but they didnt after cleaning out fuels system car went ok, for a few days then failed again
they are replacing the fuel pump, which they say is very expensive (thank god its under warranty) so for future ref, I had engine waring light on ,display said gearbox fault, cruise would lock out at times, and car was hesitant on accelleration, and in moring would not start, it would fire but then shut down, So if you have these symptoms check the fuel pump.
Now I have to decide wether or not to keep the car, not very confident
it being reliable after owning it for nearly 3 months and driving it for 2 weeks.
Although the 2.2 diesel is economical to run, is it reliable in the jag & costly to maintain
or should I get rid of the car? any ideas?

It seems to me that there's been one faulty part which has raised several symptoms. This has been repaired under warranty at no cost to you. Your car may have been off the road for a while, but it seems more down to the garage that sold the car stalling the repair or hiding the fault when they sold it. You might change the car, but then get one with worse problems. Why not get a vehicle check done by a professional company like AA or RAC before you make up your mind.

Fair comment Jonesy, I shouldnt condemn a car for just one fault, and they have gone through many checks looking for the problem, reset all the computer parameters and checking all the sensors etc, so its probably had a fair check out.
My fear is that I have never had a turbo diesel before and people now tell me that they are very expensive to maintain and repair if anything goes wrong, I bought the diesel as its very economical so I can enjoy the experience of a Jag and not worry about the fuel costs
This first experience was under warranty, but when that runs out I,m on my own.
Just wanted to know if any other owners out there find the car reliable and worth keeping, my partner suggests I get rid of it whiles its running ok and get a local product.
But I love the Jag even though I,ve only driven it for a short time but dont want to get caught with a money drain or a car sitting in the shed awaiting costly repairs.
thanks for your comments

Default fuel pump probs

Well the new fuel pump arrived last week, but guess what?
they now realise that they need special tools to fit the new fuel pump
they have spent a week trying to find some, seems they are going to get them from the UK
so who knows how long i wont have the car for now.
anyone want to buy a jag?
