The X type shared 20% commonality with the Ford Mondeo, nearly all running gear, so engine parts and consumables, brake pads / discs etc and suspension components

The parts thing has been covered and in fact they share a lot of parts.
The fluids, if you want (and you should) go for full specs, you can buy most of them in Ford dealers and they are a LOOOOT cheaper than JAG.
By coincidence today I bough 6L coolant + 1L super dot 4 brake fluid + 6L engile oil in a FORD shop with JAG specs

 

Is this inter-changeability only good for 2003 on models after Ford took over, or did Ford use the x-type design to create their vehicle so it applies to all x-types?

 

Ford took over Jag in 1990ish, long before X-types were even thought of.
