Talking GearBox Fault

I have a 2002 X-type, I've only had it for a month, runs great and sounds great. While driving today the car went into to "limp mode" and read GearBox Fault. I turned it off and restarted and ran fine but engine light is now on. Anyone have any suggestions, my husband is out of state and I have no idea.
Thanks

Hi Gracie, PLEASE DELETE THIS POST, THANKS
Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear you are stranded at the moment, there are or could be many reasons you having issues, is the engine fault light on as well and can you get reverse, have a look at this for ideas:

Dreaded Gearbox Faulty notification

Also you will need an OBDII scanner to find the exact fault so I would suggest not driving until you have a better idea, I hope someone more knowing can advise?
Were you high revving by any chance, the car may have over reacted and by hard resetting, (disconnecting the battery then reconnecting). the system will reset)

Good luck, hang in there, regards. , Stu

Were you high revving by any chance, the car may have over reacted and by hard resetting, (disconnecting the battery then reconnecting). the system will reset) and in doing so, you may find the fault is corrected if it is minor, but don't fret, the guys here are great but judging by the time you have waited for a reply, I think the guys have missed your post,

PLEASE BUMP, THIS LADY NEEDS HELP!!!

Good luck, hang in there, regards. , Stu

I see you're in St Mary's, I'm down in Jacksonville.

Your best bet is to take it to Auto Zone or Advance Auto and have them pull the trouble codes for you. They do it for free.

Once you know what the codes are, we can probably help you get it working right again.

I'm battling a gearbox fault on mine right now, and lots of things can cause that problem from some very cheap stuff to needing a new transmission.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

My gearbox faults went away when I changed the ATF at 110K miles, 2 weeks after buying the car. Bonus that the shifts are crisper, taking less time instead of mushy, slipping shifts.

My car does the same, but only when I'm in cruise control and it happens when I turn the cruise off. Turns out it's the throttle body. Right now I'm not using the cruise!
