Gearbox Fault?!
On my way home yesterday, in a heavy rain, my 2002 X-Type 3.0L shifted funny then the gearbox fault message came on and the car went to what I've been told is "Limp Mode". I shut the car off and waited then started it back up and It drove home fine. I go out today and the message is still there, I haven't drove it yet today but, from what I've read it looks like maybe water or moisture getting in to the TCM or ECM? But I don't know, this is my 1st Jag and everything is still new to me.
There are some pretty good posts here and on YouTube about water getting into the transmission control module causing similar problems, I'd check there first.
It's tucked up under the dash above the left front kick panel.
Good luck and let us know what your find.

Update: I got the TCM out it didn't appear to be wet but there was some corrosion on the pins where it connects. Im gonna try and upload some pics. Is there a way to clean this? Or Does it need to be replaced?

Hi Fancy,
There can be a mixed signal after heavy rain and you may indeed have a faulty gearbox but a wipedown, a dab of wd40 cleaner will do you good and have you looked for any faults with an OBDII scanner, it will definately help.
I would also check the battery and even try a hard reset of the electrics after you have replaced the TCM and give her a good test drive?

You hopefully will get by after replacing the TCm and if it does go away, you can relax as these cars are prone (like most) to moisture/rain and weather in general?
Good Luck, Stu
