Gearbox Fault
As I was nearing my destination and making a left turn into the parking lot, I hear a sound as if something was rubbing against something else...more of a clicking sound. Parked the car. When I came back and put it in gear nothing happened. Would not move. When I put it in "park" I hear a clicking sound as if the tranny (flywheel?) was still spinning. It's a 2003 X-Type. Disconnected the battery. Nothing changed. Car in park yet it still moves. Got a "Gearbox Fault" message.....help!
Probably going to have to get the car to a lift for visual inspection for starters. How many miles on it? There are CV joints on the front wheel axles; just guessing but if one or both are failed then that could explain why car moves with transmission in Park.
Thanks for getting back to me. The car has 153,000 miles on it. It was weird as I was driving up to the office...I started to get a throbbing on the steering as one of the tires had a bubble on it. The car has been sitting for almost 24 hours - just tried it again to see if it would move....nothing.
