GET ANOTHER KEY, while you CAN!
I keep getting emails and seeing posts about owners who had ONE KEY and lost it. I got one of those emails this morning, and there's a post here from someone else with the same problem.
To recover from this requires:
1, decode the lock, using a special tool
2, send the code information to have key made and sent to you (with a turnaround time of several days)
3, have a local locksmith or Jag dealer program the car to accept the new key's transponder code, which requires a house call and will cost plenty.
If you shoot pictures of the working end of your ignition key TODAY, and hang onto them for later reference, you avoid the first step of this process. But if you only have one working ignition key, you're running on borrowed time! Whether you get more keys from me or from someone else, GET THEM WHILE YOU CAN! And spread this word to every owner you know with the same potential problem.
My advice is to have at least two spare keys. Have them made while you can. Though few local locksmiths have the equipment to cut the key, any auto locksmith can put working transponder chips into the keys that you get from me or from other sources. This means not having to take the risk of sending that one key anywhere.
If you have more than one working ignition key, there's less risk. Send one key to me or someone else doing Tibbe keys, and any number of spares can be made, programmed and ready to use.
Whether you order keys from me or find someone else to make them for you, PLEASE do it NOW. I really hate having to tell someone how much trouble they're in when they lose that last key.

That is obvious to me - but I know that it is not to others.
On the Jags, where I got 2 OE keys, I had another 2 copies made and those are the key I use, so that the 2 OEs do not get lost.
On the one Jag which came with 1 OE key only, I will have 3 copies made with 3 cloned transponders, and I will only use the cloned keys...
