Default Got a custom plate for your cat?

When I bought my cat in early December of '11 I was proud to own it wanted to treat my self so I thought to make the cat my own by adding a custom plate.

I came up with the name because the car has a nice purr to it so I first though of Jag (being the car) and Rawr, but after realizing that Rawr seemed like a panzy made it Roar.
Which made sense because Jaguar and Jagroar sound kind of similar.
Can't wait to get the mina exhaust to take that purr up to a ROAR!

A lot of people comment on the plate I've even seen people sneak pictures as if I was in my father's GT.

Funny story about my plate, In mid-February I was taking these two girls out to dinner, dropped them out front and I went to park. On my way inside there was a guy outside enjoying a smoke. As I was passing he said, "I like that plate I really wanted that plate" I stopped, chuckled a bit, and said, " I just bought my car in December" He said, "Yeah, I just bought my XKR-S in January" I thought to myself "damn... this plate would be more appropriate on his car.." I smiled and said to him, "I'll sell you the plate for a thousand bucks" He laughed, and I went inside to join my two ladies for dinner.

Let's see your plate and if you've got a quirky story behind it let us know!

This plate is just haughty enough for a Jag owner methinks:

Just for fun, I threw on the plates from my other car (1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V 2-Door, the very last year of the true "Big" Lincoln, 20 feet long).

This year, however, I think I am going to go with a simple, 'non-descript' standard numbered plate.

I had BLK JAG for about 4 years but went back to a standard plate last year.

Default All Great Plates!

I always wanted to get one that reads; "8 Left." You know, a Cat has nine lives?? Ok, so it isn't all that great. But, I do have military plates so I have not looked into personalized plates (yet)!

In Arizona you have to pay $50 initially for custom plates, and then $50 each year with your registration to keep them. I find the fee structure ridiculously expensive. Sure, I could afford it, but it's the principle of it, the fees are way to high.

How about other states? Is this pricing common?

Here in Ontario, Canada, the fee structure for personalized plates are only one-time, however, they are quite pricey in comparison to the generic ones.

2 license plates are required here but the fees below are total cost.

2 to 8 characters, $251.65

2 to 6 characters & a graphic, $336.40 (choose from 1 of these graphics)

If you want generic plates when you buy/register a vehicle, the cost is $22 which is also the same fee if you wanted to replace your existing damaged/rusted plates.

The only yearly fee applies to license renewal and [plate] sticker renewal.

In the UK if you want a top custom plate then you have to buy it from someone.

For example a quick look on line to see what is for sale-
these are at the very top of the market and are asking prices
D38 £30K, 8A or J9 £175K, 10F £200K, 5J £234995, 8S £559990

F1 was sold in 2008 for £440K

>8S £559990

Are you kidding? $898,046.81 for a plate number!!!

What's so special about 8S was that Winston Churchill's number or some such?

I guess when you compare, Arizona is not all that expensive but the plates are stamped out (printed) at a cost well below the price the state charges. If I keep a custom plate for 5 yrs, I've paid $250 plus tax for an item that cost maybe $15 to make.

Anyway, my favorite so far is JAG ROAR. Btw, Boss, did your Jag survive hurricane Sandy ok?

8 S is just a single number single letter. Nothing else special as far as I know.

These are the asking price.
I forgot to say plus 20% tax, £80 to transfer the paperwork and £25 for the plates.

Of course you do not OWN the plate. The authority can confiscate it so you would then loose all your ££££s

Other plates can be regularly bought at auctions run by the authorities.
They reintroduce old numbers from scrapped cars but also release numbers that have never been issued.
The goverment site
DVLA Personalised Registrations - Buy private number plates direct from the DVLA. From £250 fully inclusive

Try this for actual prices. You can see what a big business it is in the UK

Ha ha, Interesting Guys n Girls!
My plate is S2 UXB!
The S2 (Stu) is my personal touch and the "UXB" (UNEXPLODED BOMB) is a reg I always wanted, in the UK, I thought I don't want STU500 or something people couldn't work out.
My Grandfather was in the Royal Engineers and the term UXB was used by bomb disposal during World War II. Having worked in security and serving with quite a few X Servicemen, they thought it quite amusing! I personally love it, but as always with a personal registration, you don't want to go round upsetting people and I do get funny looks from the cops!
And truth be told, the X type goes like a bomb when my foot is down so.................. Please make way, Ha ha! Stu
