Default Gunson G4062 Eezibleed Kit

Has anyone ever used one of these? Does it even have a cap for the X Type?
Have never bled brakes before so willing to take any advice given.

Cheers
Peter

Peter,

I've used the Gunson a few times and am about to do a fluid flush my XK today with it.

The largest of the caps in the G4062 (45 mm internal diameter) fits the X300/X308/XJ8/XK but I don't know for sure if this is the same size as the X-Type.

The Gunson makes bleeding a one man operation because you don't need an assistant to keep pressing the brake pedal.

Two awkward things:

1. propping up the Gunson fluid bottle - I remember having to tie it to the windscreen wiper on the XK8 to keep it vertical

2. dropping the pressure in the tyre you use down to 20 psi. Use the spare if you don't have an inflator at home

Remember when dealing with brake fluid - cleanliness is critical.

Thanks Graham, I was actually thinking of going to use an old bike tyre tube and pressurise it up to about 17/18psi.

Will order one of these kits up and see about fabricating (posh word for bodging) up a stand for the bottle.

re the top, will take the chance on it fitting.

Cheers

Peter,

Here's the way I set the Gunson up on my XK today (much the same as every other vehicle I've used it on):

The Gunson feed tube is short so the fluid bottle can't be very far away from the brake fluid reservoir.

A little improvisation on a container to catch the drained fluid:

You can see it is actualy draining as I took the photo. The whole process really is that easy.

Used 750 ml of brake fluid.

That's a good idea flushing out the brake fluid. You're a good owner. Most people wouldn't think of doing that unless they got new brakes. Speaking of which, I would like to get some good brake pads. My rotors feel fine but I would like to install some ebc pads or something similar, just to feel the difference. I've never done brakes before, they've always intimidated me when I was younger, but now I realize it can't be that complicated if you have the tools and know the concept. For $200 there is also a sweet full brake kit on ebay for the X-type including rotors. If I splurge I would get that but if not maybe just good pads for now, but that would be a project for like the fall or something. I have too much going on right now and for the most part I think the brakes I have are fine. Probably could use a fluid flush though... Probably a good reason to invest in a brake bleeder if nothing else.
