Default Has anyone tried the TPS on eBay?

This one:

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=281554858603

My car has been acting suddenly going into limp mode and idle speed going up. It did it in early January and again today.

I was just wondering if this is a good solution instead of buying the entire new throttle body.

Thanks!!

Several forum members have used the eBay TPS, nobody has reported any problems.

Thanks for your reply!!

I am just always cautious with aftermarket parts. I have come across hoses that disintegrate, coils that give you a year of service and so forth. I would much rather spend 40 dollars on this aftermarket sensor than 300 on a whole new throttle body, but only if it's a known good part.

Also I read another topic where Thermo had opened a few failed throttle bodies and it turned out to be throttle body motor, which means a new TPS won't help me.

Anyone have any advise or suggestions

This is the topic where it's discussed that the motors on the Throttle body fail instead of the TPS

I am going to take a chance and replace the TPS with one of these after market units unless someone else has something else to offer. I will also replace the TPS pig tail and the other throttle body pigtail.

I go into limp after using cruise control at high speeds. The codes point to the TPS. I just ordered one. Watch this space.

I ordered 40 dollar the TPS I linked earlier,
A new pigtail connector for the TPS as well as a new pigtail connector for the throttle body motor....oh and also a TS5 pointed star set to remove the TPS. Appearantly it's a ts20 bolt.

Hopefully this takes care of the problem for both of us.

Ok,

I got the new TPS;

The special tools to remove the old TPS;

A new connector for the TPS

I also got a new connector for the throttle body motor, but sadly it does not fit.

I intend to do this without removing the throttle body. Should I use any kind of sealant around the new TPS? Will the new TPS be "plug and play", or will I need to have it reset at a dealer?

Input from anyone who has installed one of these TPS's would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I went ahead and changed the TPS tonight. I had already cleaned the throttle body a few months ago, so I did not want to remove the entire throttle body.

It took me less than 20 minutes, I just removed the PCV hose and used the special 5 star tool I pictured above to remove the old TPS. I used some sensor safe waterpump gasket maker around the new TPS. If the car would not have been warm it would have taken me less than 20 minutes.

The new TPS did not require any programming or adjusting. Just plug and go. Since this failure has only happened twice, I won't know if this solved my problem unless it happens again. The car is driving completely normal and the old TPS does not seem compromised in any way.

I will splice in the new connector pigtail tomorrow.

Hi Spike , am intrigued that your new tps sensor required no adjustment.
As i'm sure your aware, it is mounted on slotted bolt apertures for adjustment.

Whenever i have replace a tps on other vehicles there is usually a baseline voltage setting for idle and wide open throttle (wot).

Did i miss something in your post or did you just bolt it on ?

Thanks for your reply;

You did not miss anything, I Just bolted it on. It's idling and driving perfectly normal.
