Headlight Fixture Break
I tried to upgrade existing halogen to HID in my 2009 X Type but tech advised that the fixture is damaged so bulbs and ballast cannot be replaced. Existing halogen lighting is functional even though neither wiring or socket is affixed to the fixture (they dangle inside the fixture). Tech claims that both fixtures have to be replaced. Used RH seems to be readily available but LH not so much. Tech claims that scammers often pack a damaged fixture into a box for shipping and then deny all knowledge when the damaged fixture packaging is opened. Not sure if this is fact. Here is my question. Are the fixtures truly prone to damage (wiring and socket breaking loose from the fixture)? If so, can the problem be corrected with repair versus replacement of the fixture? Thanks in advance.
I think you mean the adjusters break? If so, that is a well known problem and there is a guy in Poland who makes replacements. You can find him on ebay. See the video on how to replace them:
When the adjusters break, it is impossible to aim the headlights; as the portion that carries the bulbs isn't attached to the headlight body anymore.

I have done this procedure a couple of times using the kits from the gentleman in Poland. It’s a good kit, and easy to accomplish
It’s best if you have a heat gun to soften the butyl rubber gasket. Take your time on that so you don’t melt the plastic housing.
