Default Hello Guys, New Member and New Jaguar Xtype Owner

Hello there I am the proud owner of a new 3.0 Jaguar X-Type and I wanted to know what sort of things to expect maintenence wise for this car. It has 74000 miles on it and was purchased from CarMax. I still have the option of getting the extended warranty for 100K miles with a 250.00 deductible for $2050.00 or the 120K miles with same deductible for $2689.00. I called my buddy at Barrett Jaguar of San Antonio and he says that its a great car it has a known issue with oil leakage and that would run me about 1200 to fix. So my main question is would you say the warranty is worthwhile?

Yes, a warranty is a good idea. And I'm assuming the oil leak your friend is referring to is the oil pan gasket which is indeed about a $1200-$1400 repair at a dealer. The funny thing is that 95% of that cost is labor. The part is only like $40, it's just an extremely labor intensive procedure. I should know, I went through that process.

You dont think the warranty is too much.. I could put that money in a savings account and guess what the money would still be there and not expire after 50K miles. Unless you really think it will be well spent on warranty

Congrats, you should also read FAQs at the top of the page , transfer case is paramount concern as far as I know

DO the warranty. I have spent that on a 2004 3.0 with 67K in the last 4 months. If it was offered to me at that price I would have taken it. What makes this ok for me is that I got the car at a good price. Most likely because they new the issues. Dealer has also paid alot to get this car up to par. On another note my wife absolutely loves it.

Yes, I think you should still do the warranty. Even if you put that money into a savings or other interest bearing account, there's no way in hell you'd be able to keep up with costs over the next few years. The warranty is the way to go. I think people underestimate the repair costs with our vehicles. The X can be purchased at a low cost, but the upkeep really is expensive. I think people don't realize this.

Thanks for the advice guys.. well I guess Im getting the warranty. Hopefully I can negotiate down the deductible
